Trend analysis

As part of its informative task, COGEM has the lead role in drawing up a trend analysis of developments in biotechnology. It is compiled for the Dutch House of Representatives with the aim to inform politicians about major new biotechnological developments and applications in the Netherlands and further afield, the trends which can be recognised in this, the associated chances and possibilities that can be realised and the ethical and societal aspects related to these.

The ‘Trend Analysis Biotechnology’ is commissioned by the Minister of Environment, also on behalf of her colleagues from the Ministry of Agriculture, and the Ministry of Health. It is a joint publication of the Commission on Biotechnology in Animals (CBD), the Dutch Health Council and COGEM. The trend analysis covers the whole field of biotechnology and is not limited to genetic modification.
